SECURITY CONSULTING AND RISK MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Expert security consulting and independent assessment to address complex security challenges and support informed decision-making.

An effective security program plays an important role in risk management, asset protection, and organizational resilience. Trident Investigative Service, Inc. provides security consulting services led by Michael J. Canaan, CPP, a board-certified security management professional with decades of operational and advisory experience.

Trident assists clients across a wide range of sectors, including aviation, maritime, distribution, entertainment, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, technology, and special events. Services are designed to help organizations understand current security conditions, identify areas for improvement, and make informed, defensible decisions consistent with recognized industry guidance and operational realities.

SECURITY ASSESSMENT APPROACH

Trident’s consulting engagements emphasize structured evaluation, documentation, and practical recommendations, tailored to each client’s environment and objectives.

While each engagement is customized, assessments commonly involve:

  • Review of existing security and risk-mitigation practices
  • Evaluation of policies, procedures, staffing, and operational controls
  • Identification of vulnerabilities and areas of elevated risk
  • Comparison of observed practices to recognized industry guidance, where applicable
  • Development of written or oral assessment findings and recommendations
  • Supporting documentation for assessment conclusions
  • Coordination with client-selected vendors or service providers, when requested
  • Follow-up reviews to assess changes or improvements over time

Recommendations are intended to support risk-informed decision-making, not to prescribe a single solution or guarantee outcomes.

PHYSICAL SECURITY AND PENETRATION TESTING

Where appropriate, security assessments may include physical security testing to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls. These activities are conducted in coordination with the client and within defined parameters.

Testing may involve evaluation of:

  • Doors, windows, locks, and perimeter barriers
  • Gates, fencing, and controlled access points
  • Security officer presence and deployment
  • Camera systems and intrusion detection
  • Electronic access control systems
  • Environmental and procedural controls

Testing activities are designed to identify weaknesses and opportunities for improvement, not to defeat systems for demonstration purposes.

TESTING AND ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES

Depending on the scope of engagement, assessment techniques may include:

  • Overt and covert observation
  • Site and infrastructure mapping
  • Evaluation of physical and electronic barriers
  • Review of access control and credentialing practices
  • Social engineering and pretext testing (with authorization)
  • Review of information handling and protection practices
  • Documentation and reporting of findings

All activities are conducted in a manner consistent with client authorization, ethical standards, and professional practice.
